Making Holidays Special is Mom's Job

Some things are more important than sleep

Not a creature was stirring not even a mouse…

Well, no one but mom, that is.

She was up checking her list and wrapping the gifts.

She was baking Greek cookies for the annual cookie swap.

She was volunteering her time and keeping the true meaning of the holidays.

She wasn’t sleeping — she barely does.

From the first night home from the hospital to when she watched every breath her newborn took to the nights she waited up for the car to return safely to the driveway, moms worry and toil, missing a many good nights' sleep.

Rookie moms with bloodshot eyes wait in anticipation for the nights when fairy dust will lull their babies to the land of Winkin’ Blinkin’ and Nod.

You will recognize them in the Land of Sleepless Mommies as they perform the zombie shuffle. Veteran moms smile in recognition and hold back the truth.

Sleep is a memory you only get to dream about.

Soon your babies are grown and you think nestled all snug in their beds. When suddenly you may hear quite a clatter. And what to your wondering eyes should appear but the presence of a sickly child, oh dear.

Dash away sleep for yet another night.

It’s time to board the “Mother Express” for the ride of your life.

Sleepless nights praying about the things you can’t fix. Sleepless nights sweating for it’s THAT time of your life.

Next stop the holidays where mom is in charge. The gift of sleep a luxury she cannot afford.

Deck the SUV with antler ears; it’s time to travel here, there and everywhere.  From the mall to the local merchant she roams. Baking and cooking the traditions for holiday for her well rested family‘s special day.

Twas the Night before Christmas, Hanukkah and Diwali and all through the house no creatures were stirring but the mother of the house.

She was up making sure the day would be merry and bright while dreaming of sleeping once all through the night.

Wishing Moms a very Happy Holiday and a good night’s sleep!
