Beware of the "Self Defense" Frauds! Part #1

Beware of the “Self Defense” Frauds! Part #1

Here’s a quick, very abbreviated biography of my personal training, fighting and real world self defense history. First off, I’ll tell you what I am not. I’m not a Navy SEAL, Member of SWAT, nor was in involved in any type of Special Ops. I will tell you what I have done. I was a bouncer for 20 years, a Professional Bodyguard for over 10. I won over 300 matches, mostly Karate type, but over 50 in the full contact arena (Kickboxing, Full Contact Karate, Full Contact Taekwondo). I was also an NCAA Division 1 wrestler and boxed for a year or so to improve my hands for kickboxing. Additionally, I competed and won at the Expert Level of NAGA Submission Fighting Championships. I have trained with some of the Legends of MMA and am known and respected by them. If you want to find out additional information, feel free to look me up on the internet. I’m not hard to find.

Some of the bars and clubs that I worked in lent me to deal with 3 to 4 fights a night. I worked in college bars in Prince Georges County, MD, Biker Bars in Laurel, MD and in Charles County, as well night clubs in DC. I also worked in New York City in bars in Hell’s Kitchen. I’ve worked parties where the noted gangs were in attendance and melee’s broke out. I was hired for a reason. I was good and could handle myself.

Now, I cannot believe the ridiculous amount of “Self Defense Snake Oil Salesmen” out there. They are promoting these “Quick Fix”, “Diet Ad” solutions to self defense. Completely ludicrous. I was prompted to write this article because I was seriously fed up with this nonsense. I have seen it on the internet for years, but I heard and ad on the radio for some nonsense DVD being promoted by some self proclaimed “expert” in the field of self defense. He claims that he has produced a DVD that contains the “15 Most Lethal Techniques” in the world. By getting his DVD, he claims that you will be able to defend yourself in any situation. He further goes on to proclaim that he learned these techniques from “Former Navy SEALs and Illegal Pit Fighters”. How convenient. He can simply claim that “Due to the nature of their backgrounds, revealing their names would be potentially harmful to their lives and and their identities need to be protected”. What a joke! Too bad that the general population doesn’t have a clue!

Now, some of these “Experts” that I’ve seen and known (unfortunately), are talented themselves. The difference is that they have trained for years and years, many are accomplished athletes or fighters. They look very convincing on video as they demonstrate their their “deadly techniques that are banned by the government”. OK - when should I stop laughing? What does that statement actually mean? Has the government banned kicks, strikes, chops, punches, chokes and holds? Where is this list of banned techniques? Why are they banned and is hitting someone in the head with a baseball bat or a brick OK? It would be 100% laughable if people didn’t waste their hard earned cash on the real real predators pilfering their wallets by preying on their fears.
