Authorities Seeking ‘Person of Interest’ in Synagogue Firebombing

Prosecutor urges anyone with information to immediately contact authorities, reward offered.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office released images Friday of a man authorities said bought items used in the firebombing of Congregation Beth El in Rutherford.

Investigators believe the man, and possibly others, are behind the Jan. 11 attack, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said. The attack was the most violent in around Bergen County.

The images show the man leaving a Saddle Brook Wal-Mart store after buying items used in the attack, Molinelli said. The man in the video purchased most of the items used in the firebombing, Molinelli said.

“The unidentified male appears to be fair skinned with brown to black hair and beard; he stands approximately 5’10” to 6’1” tall and has a thin to medium build. The male appears to be between 18 and 30 years old,” said a law enforcement alert released today.

The man is thought to live in the North Jersey area, Molinelli said.

The prosecutor urged anyone with information to immediately contact police and not to confront the man. Tips can also be called in to the Prosecutor’s Major Crimes Unit at 201-226-5532, text messaged to 551-265-5651 or emailed to tips@bcpo.net.
