Bank Robbery Suspect Nabbed in Ridgewood Following Chase

One person was arrested in Ridgewood by Waldwick Police after the alleged bank robber fled the scene in a stolen car.

One man is in custody Monday afternoon following a bank robbery in Oakland earlier Monday, according to police and FBI officials.

The TD Bank on Ramapo Valley Road was robbed before noon on Monday and Oakland K-8 schools were locked down for about 30 minutes in response to the incident.

Details of the robbery are scant, but police sources confirmed that the allegedly armed bank robber fled the scene in a stolen Toyota Camry and was pursued by multiple police departments along Route 17.

The man was eventually arrested without incident by Waldwick Police at the on-ramp of Route 17 and Paramus Road in Ridgewood, according to multiple police sources.

FBI Spokeswoman Barbara Woodruff told Patch Monday that Oakland Police would be handling charges against the alleged robber.

Oakland Police were unable to confirm or deny any details of the bank robbery Monday afternoon, citing the involvement of the FBI. 

An Oakland school official who did not wish to be named said that schools were locked down for about a half an hour and that the lock down was lifted without incident.

An employee who answered the door at the bank refused comment Monday afternoon.
