Boy Avoids Luring Attempt—Police Blotter

Elderly woman attempts to abduct 11-year-old on Sterling Place, Monday.

Village police responded to an attempt luring incident mid-afternoon Oct. 5.

According to the Ridgewood Police Department, after 3 p.m. Monday, an 11-year-old male was asked to get in a vehicle. The boy was walking home from school on Sterling Place, when a mid-sized, four-door, black vehicle with brown interior pulled along side of him. The boy reported that it was occupied by a white female driver in her sixties with blonde hair. The make and model of the vehicle are unknown.

The child told police that the female driver raised a white paper bag with one hand and motioned for him to enter the vehicle with her other hand saying "get in."

Ignored the request, he continued walking. He reported that the vehicle then traveled north on Sterling Place toward Ho-Ho-Kus. The boy also reported that there was dry cleaning hanging directly behind the driver in the passenger compartment of the vehicle. The matter is currently being investigated by the Detective Bureau.

—Oct. 1: A Gateway Road resident reported that an unknown person had entered his home. The intruder was confronted, and he said he was from a delivery company that was expected. When the victim went to get dressed the person then started going through cabinets in the kitchen. The person was physically forced out of the house and the police notified. The matter is under investigation by the Ridgewood Detective Bureau.
