Car Stolen From Ridgewood Strikes Glen Rock High School

Mini Cooper stolen out of Ridgewood was left abandoned following a crash that scuffed a few bricks but otherwise left the building unscathed.

A car thief's joyride came to an abrupt end when the vehicle stolen from Ridgewood crashed into Glen Rock High School, according to borough police.

Glen Rock Police Cpt. Jonathan Miller said a 2005 Mini Cooper stolen from Ridgewood overnight had crashed into the building near the sports lobby of the high school sometime Saturday morning.

The car was reported stolen at 7:15 a.m. and later discovered by custodial staff at the high school, Miller said. The Mini Cooper's airbags had deployed following the accident. No driver was found.

"There was no damage to the building," Sandy Marinos, supervisor of buildings and grounds for the district, told Patch. "It did hit the back porch off the high school where the sports lobby was, but the car was so small it just hit the brick and left paint on the brick. It did more damage to the car than the building."

Village police are continuing the investigation, Miller said.
