Cops Investigating Assault of 67-year-old Borough Woman

Victim was unable to identify her assailant

Borough detectives are continuing an investigation into the assault and robbery of a 67-year-old woman on Friday, according to police.

An unknown assailant attacked the woman from behind just before 11 p.m. Friday in front of her Hillside Avenue home.

As the woman walked from her car to her garage, an individual grabbed the 67 year old from behind and kicked out her legs, knocking her to the ground before making off with her Coach handbag containing about $100 in cash, Glen Rock Police Captain Jonathan Miller said.

The woman suffered injuries, including a possibly broken hip, and was transported to Valley Hospital in Ridgewood by Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps, according to police.

GRPD is working with other agencies to try to solve the crime, which is being treated as a robbery and aggravated assault, Miller said.

Since the woman was attacked from behind she was unable to identify the person who attacked her.

Miller told Glen Rock Patch on Thursday that detectives had interviewed the woman's boss in hopes of making some sort of break in the case, but currently there is nothing to report.

Assaults such as this are rare in the borough, according to Miller. He said he couldn't recall the last time a Glen Rock resident was assaulted in this manner, adding it hasn't happened for a "long time."

The detectives' investigation is ongoing.
