Update: Police Say Driver That Struck Couple Claims He Had Trouble Seeing in the Rain

Glen Rock man issued citation in accident that sent two pedestrians to Hackensack University Medical Center with head injuries on Saturday night

A couple crossing East Ridgewood Avenue near the post office were taken to Hackensack University Medical Center suffering from head wounds after being struck by a vehicle Saturday night, according to police.

Lieutenant Todd Harris of the Ridgewood Police Department said Saturday night that a couple in their 50s were crossing north-south at the Walnut and East Ridgewood Avenue intersection when a vehicle struck the pair.

According to police, the accident, which occurred shortly before 8:00 p.m., resulted in the summons of 51-year-old Adam Beldner, of Glen Rock.

According to Captain Jacqueline Luthcke, Beldner reported he did not see the pedestrians due to the hard rain at the time.

The victims, of Mahwah, both sustained head injuries, police said, and the male victim also reportedly suffered a knee injury. Both were taken to Hackensack University Medical Center though the severity of injuries was unclear immediately following the accident.

The driver was cited with failing to yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk and will face a future date in Ridgewood Municipal Court.
