Drunk Driver Careened Into White Picket Fence, Police Claim

No injuries were reported in the New Year's Day crash on the corner of Woodside Avenue in Ridgewood.

A Ridgewood man whose pickup truck took out a white picket fence Tuesday afternoon is facing drunk driving charges.

Reinaldo Melendez, 35, was intoxicated when he failed to navigate the right turn from Woodside Avenue onto Leonard Place and crashed into a resident's fence at about 4:15 p.m., Ridgewood police Sgt. Peter Bolten said.

No injuries were reported in the single vehicle accident. The fence sustained considerable damage. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Melendez was charged with DWI, careless driving and operating a vehicle without a driver's license. He faces an upcoming appearance at Ridgewood Municipal Court.
