UPDATE: Electrical Fire on Richmond Ave. Extinguished

Once power was turned off, firemen were able to put the fire out

Firemen extinguished a small fire that had broken out on the electrical wires on Richmond Avenue today.

"It's a primary wire, about 4000 volts," said Fire Chief James Van Goor.

Firemen were unable to fight the flames until power was shut off by Public Services, about a half hour after the call was made, said Van Goor. At that time, the fire had spread from the wires to a nearby tree.

Fire staff cordoned off the area with caution tape, to keep pedestrains away from the area. The fire was out by about 4:00 p.m.
