False Fire Alarms Lead to Two Arrests

Ridgewood police said two men were acting suspiciously when they arrived at the intersection of Dayton and Hope St. to investigate two separate fire alarms.

Two men were arrested after police and fire were dispatched to the intersection of Hope and Dayton streets on report of two separate active fire alarms. Turns out, someone pulled the alarms and no fires were present.

According to , at around 3 a.m. on Aug. 17, while patrol investigated a suspicious person in the parking lot of Emmanuel Baptist Church on Hope Street, they saw a man hiding in the bushes. Joseph Wade, 21, of Ridgewood, pulled the alarm, police said. Wade was charged with false public alarm and faces an upcoming date in municipal court.

It wasn't long before Thomas J Eaves, 71 of Hackensack, was also arrested. Police say he was the "suspicious man" parked in the lot and was arrested on an outstanding warrant issued by Bloomingdale Municipal Court. Eaves was released after posting bail.
