Fire Department Looking for Volunteers

The Ridgewood Fire Department responded to 44 calls from August 8, 2010 to August 14, 2010.

The responses include 18 EMT calls; 2 arcing, shorted electrical equiptment; 3 telephone or cable TV wires down; 2 lock-outs and lock-ins; 14 alarm malfunctions; 3 smoke investigations/removals; 1 building weakened or collapsed; and 1 illegal burning.

The Ridgewood Volunteer Fire Department is understaffed right now and looking for new members to fill the ranks. Volunteer firefighters assist members of the Career Department at major fires, during storms, or any time the on-duty shift needs additional personnel at an emergency scene. All of the training and equipment is provided by the Fire Department, so interested volunteers wouldn't pay a thing!

Volunteer firefighters also attend training drills once a week on Monday evenings between the hours of 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM. If you're interested in becoming a volunteer member of the Ridgewood Fire Department, call the Ridgewood Fire Department at 201-444-4224.

The Ridgewood Fire Departments has also received donated smoke detectors through the WABC Operations Save-A-Life Program to be used by Ridgewood residents. These detectors are being made available for free to senior citizens living on a fixed income or families with low incomes.
