From the Glen Rock Police Blotter: Multiple DUI Arrests in School Zones

GRPD arrested 6 individuals for driving under the influence

Tuesday, January 25 — 11:58 p.m.

Sergeant Dean Ackermann arrested a 29-year-old male from Glen Rock following a traffic stop for speeding on the 700-block of Prospect Street. The individual was found to be under the influence of alcohol and charged with driving under the influence. His car was impounded and he was released to a responsible party. A court date is scheduled for February 15. 

Friday, January 28 — 2:50 a.m.

Officer Greg Carter arrested a 29-year-old male from Midland Park subsequent to a motor vehicle stop near the intersection Lincoln and Utter avenues. The individual was charged with driving under the influence in a school zone, failure to keep right and driving at a slow speed to stop or impede traffic. His vehicle was impounded and released to a responsible party.

Friday, January 28 — 4:31 a.m.

Hawthorne police issued a request for help with an incident in the area of Lincoln and Grandview avenues. Glen Rock police responded to the scene where they found a 43-year-old female acting irrationally. The female, a Glen Rock resident, told officers that her children were left home alone. Police went to the woman’s residence to check on the children; officers found the door to the home wide open and entered. The children were safe, but officers found narcotics and narcotics paraphernalia in plain sight. Officer Michael Trover charged the woman with possession of narcotic paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. Hawthorne Police transported her to St. Mary’s Hospital in Passaic.

Saturday, January 29 — 1245 p.m.

A man driving in the area of the 300-block  of Harristown Road had his car window hit with a projectile. There was no damage to the window, but the concerned man notified police who then located two 14-year-old boys in possession of a Colt Airsoft pistol. Officers spoke to their parents and the Juvenile Department will also follow up with the young boys.

Monday, January 31 — 10:23 a.m.

Following a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Maple and Hamilton avenues near Central School, Officer Bryan Scott arrested 53-year-old female from Upper Saddle River for driving under the influence in a school zone, careless driving and failure to keep right. Her car was impounded, and she was released to a responsible party with a February 15 court date.

Tuesday, February 1 —1:20 a.m.

Officer Robert Surdyka arrested a 23-year-old man following a traffic stop at the intersection of Maple and Elm avenues for driving under the influence in a school zone, careless driving and failure to keep right. His car was impounded and a court date is set for February 15.

Tuesday, February 1 — 3:43 p.m.

Officer Michael Trover arrested a 24-year-old male from Hackensack for driving under the influence in a school zone, careless driving, driving with a suspended license and driving with a suspended registration. The 24-year-old man was arrested at Rock Road and Berkeley Place following a motor vehicle accident several minutes prior in Ridgewood. The individual also had a no-bail warrant from The Essex County Sheriffs Department. He was processed by Glen Rock Police and turned over to Essex County Sheriffs.

Tuesday, February 1 — 6 p.m.

A female resident at Godfrey Terrace reported to police that her identity had been stolen. She told Detective James Calaski that an unknown party had opened a Sears’s credit card in her name. Detective Calaski advised her of what further actions to take to protect her finances.

Wednesday, February 2 —3:35 p.m.

A Haristown Road resident reported to Glen Rock Police Headquarters that his identity was stolen. The resident discovered a balance on his credit card that wasn’t his, Detective Calaski advised him how to notify his financial institutions.

Thursday, February 3 —12:13 a.m.

Officer Scott McGovern arrested a 33-year-old Hawthorne man at Lincoln and Parker avenues in Hawthorne following a traffic stop. He was charged with driving under the influence in a school zone, being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance and careless driving.  His car was impounded, and he was processed and released with a February 15 court date.
