Getaway Driver in 'Violent' Jewelry Heist Sentenced to Hard Time

Adrian Hicken sentenced to 24 years in prison for his role in the armed robbery of a Wyckoff jewelry shop that resulted in two police officers being injured on a high-speed pursuit.

The getaway driver of a sledge hammer-wielded robbery crew that made off with about $1 million in jewelry before being captured in a high speed police chase has been sentenced to more than two decades in prison, according to a news report.

Adrian Hicken was sentenced to 24 years in prison on Friday by Hackensack Superior Court Judge Patrick Roma for his role in the April 9, 2011 armed robbery of Hartger's Jewelry in Wyckoff, according to a report on northjersey.com.

Authorities at the time said a crew of New York City men smashed the counters with sledgehammers, grabbed Rolex watches and assaulted customers and owner Glenn Hartgers. Two minutes later, Hicken, the getaway driver, raced through Wyckoff, Midland Park and Ridgewood on Goffle Road at high speeds, smashing two police cars before the crew bailed along the side of Route 208.

Ridgewood Police Officer Patrick Elwood apprehended Hicken. The three other men – Andre C. Lewis, Darren Ellis and Maurice Highland – were recently sentenced to 12-14 years in prison, northjersey.com reported.
