Glen Rock Man Accused of Conning Woman Out of $11,000

Frank Corpi, 48, was arrested in Essex County for allegedly scamming a woman he met at a hotel.

A Glen Rock man with a history of theft convictions was arrested Saturday for allegedly scamming a woman out of $11,000 in Essex County.

According to Fairfield police, Frank Corpi, 48, of Glen Rock, met the unidentified female victim while both were staying at the Fairfield Laquinta hotel in December. Corpi allegedly told the victim he was a financial analyst and convinced her to partner with him on an investment. Police said he gained her trust by negotiating a better room and cell phone rate.

Authorities said the victim gave $11,000 to Corpi on Dec. 22 under the belief she would receive the dividends on her investment in January. But law enforcement says payments never arrived, nor did Corpi.

Corpi surrendered to Fairfield Police on Saturday, March 23 and was charged with a single count of theft by deception. He was released on $10,000 bail and faces an April 3 court date in Newark.
