A Glen Rock man was arrested on sex assault charges Thursday after a Bergenfield woman alleged that he assaulted her when she was a teen, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office announced in a release Thursday.

According to the prosecutor, Abelardo Ramirez, 46, has been charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual contact, criminal sexual contact and endangering the welfare of a child.

The arrest stemmed from an investigation after the woman, now 23, reported the alleged assault to the Bergenfield Police Department last week, the release said. The woman said Ramirez engaged in “inappropriate sexual activity” with her when she was between the ages of 15 and 18, it said.

Ramirez is a maintenance worker at New Milford’s Hovnanian School, authorities said.

Ramirez was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of $350,000 bail, the Prosecutor’s Office said. An arraignment hearing is set for Feb. 26.

Seriously.... Now she came forward to say something. It has been at least 5yrs since the supposed contact. And what is it 15 or 18 yrs old. Because if it was 15-18 then there was no assault. It was her consenting as a minor. My guess is they had a relationship for the past 8yrs and he just broke her heart. People don't normally come forward this long after an incident happened. Ok if they were having sexual relations when she was a minor then fine he should be charged. But there sure was no assault. The prosecutors office has all these charges on him, because they know he can get off on multiple charges. I'm not trying to defend him but obviously there's a story that no one is telling.

You know this, how?

The age of consent in NJ is 16. She was 15 when it first started so its assualt and it is not at all unusual for women to come forward after this much time.
