GRPD Offers Tips on Staying Safe from Fraud, Scam Attempts

Detective James Calaski on Oct. 17 held a workshop to help residents protect themselves from fraud attempts.

Glen Rock Police Detective James Calaski spoke to residents last week providing the tools to safeguard themselves from a rising level of scams and fraud attempts.

In a PSA posted on GRTV's website, Calaski told residents to be particularly careful when approached with

  • Home improvement scams (unsolicited chimney and driveway repairs, included)
  • Frantic calls from loved ones asking you to wire them money for bail, car repairs or other reasons
  • Any unsolicited calls or emails for investment opportunities or lottery winnings

If you suspect someone might have attempted such things or gotten one over you, contact Calaski at jcalaski@glenrockpolice.com or at 201-652-3800.

Though police are working "tirelessly," the key is education for members of the public, Calaski said.

The full presentation from last week's presentation will be up on GRTV and a Powerpoint posted on the police department's website.
