Carlos Umana, of El Salvador, is facing stalking charges and could be deported.

An illegal immigrant was picked up by Ridgewood police last Tuesday for allegedly stalking a 16-year-old Ridgewood girl over the course of a year, according to police.

Carlos Umana, 47, residing in Waldwick, was picked up at Veterans Field in Ridgewood and remains in Bergen County Jail in lieu of $2,000 bail with no 10 percent option.

Umana, a native of El Salvador, had an active warrant out from Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Ridgewood Police Cpt. Jacqueline Luthcke said Umana was following a 16-year-old girl at sporting events for a "considerable amount of time" in such a way that it placed her in a "reasonable fear of death or bodily injury."

The victim, her parents and coaches were concerned for her safety, Luthcke said. Police have received previous calls on Umana, Luthcke said.
