An elderly man suffered a serious head injury when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing Lincoln Avenue Saturday morning, Ridgewood police said.
According to Lt. Forest Lyons, the victim was crossing Lincoln Avenue at the intersection of Belair Road when he was hit by a Toyota sedan traveling south on Lincoln. The vehicle's windshield was smashed.
The victim, who police said was visiting relatives, suffered head injuries and was transported to St. Joseph's Medical Center in Paterson. He was conscious when transported to the hospital, Lyons said.
The driver, identified as a 17-year-old male from Washington Township, will likely face traffic citations.
Lincoln Avenue remains closed off from Godwin Avenue to Belair while police investigate the incident. The prosecutor's fatal accident investigation unit is also on scene (their presence does not mean the victim died).
The incident marks the third pedestrian strike in 2013.
