Man Suffers Head Injury in Ridgewood Pedestrian Strike

Elderly man transported to trauma center after he was hit by a vehicle on Lincoln Avenue Saturday morning.

An elderly man suffered a serious head injury when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing Lincoln Avenue Saturday morning, Ridgewood police said.

According to Lt. Forest Lyons, the victim was crossing Lincoln Avenue at the intersection of Belair Road when he was hit by a Toyota sedan traveling south on Lincoln. The vehicle's windshield was smashed.

The victim, who police said was visiting relatives, suffered head injuries and was transported to St. Joseph's Medical Center in Paterson. He was conscious when transported to the hospital, Lyons said.

The driver, identified as a 17-year-old male from Washington Township, will likely face traffic citations.

Lincoln Avenue remains closed off from Godwin Avenue to Belair while police investigate the incident. The prosecutor's fatal accident investigation unit is also on scene (their presence does not mean the victim died).

The incident marks the third pedestrian strike in 2013.

Is this another Westwood youth going to Paterson?

You should be ashamed of yourself for making a prejudicial, cynical comment based on ignorance and supposition. I would imagine that you are a model of perfection! It would be nice if you were to comment regarding the FACTS of the story, unless you know something that the reporter has not stated.....with that said.... Hope that the elderly gentleman will have a speedy recovery and safely return back home to his family.

sounds like it

Hopefully he will be ok. Yea I agree AML these two posters have a tendancy to be extremely NEGATIVE. Get the facts for crying out loud.

Nice rush to judgement, also it states Washington Township and not Westwood. Your ignorance is showing Mikka.

AML- people are making generalizations based on facts. Very simple. I can't speak for everyone but I'm sure most people are hoping the injured man heals quickly. People don't need to be ashamed of themselves for posting their thoughts, this is a public forum.
Phil Brooks February 03, 2013 at 03:51 PM
Some people should be very ashamed (assuming they have any shame) for posting their thoughts because, like Mikka, above, they have proven time and again that they're morons. Then again, though it might be OK to post thoughts, posting unfounded accusations (like the kid was on his way to Paterson to buy drugs, the last three words left unsaid by Mikka and RdgwdGRock--never mind, why, if he was from Washington Twp., was he driving down Lincoln to head to Paterson for?) is totally uncalled for.

Lincoln Avenue does lead directly into Paterson.

was the victim in the cross walk? there is a blinking yellow light. means... slow down!

Lincoln Ave, also takes you to Glen ROCK,Hawthorne or various cut offs in Ridgewood. Besides you no longer have to drive to Paterson for drugs just shop local.
SR res February 03, 2013 at 09:14 PM
Phil, I responded way too quickly on that one. I agree that mikka does consistently post hateful and stupid opinions. Believe me, if I realized it was Mikka, I'd have never responded. That said, it's not a huge reach to say teens from surrounding towns drive on Lincoln ave for various reasons. Hopefully they're visiting friends or doing errands. People can drive the streets without going on drug runs.

So From now on I'll only post what you ridgewoodites what to hear....sugarcoated nonsense that makes you feel good and walking around the obvious ....and yes, I do know more than you.....that's the easy part....
Phil Brooks February 04, 2013 at 02:56 AM
Right. But when you're coming from Washington Township? There are much easier ways, especially when you've apparently come through Ridgewood and end up on the other side of the tracks from downtown as he was traveling south on Lincoln from Godwin and hit the pedestrian near Bellair. Unless he was in the neighborhood for something else, this guy went well out of his way.
Phil Brooks February 04, 2013 at 04:32 PM
Better yet, Mikka, why don't you post something that gives other readers the sense that you have an IQ higher than a bowling ball?
Phil Brooks February 04, 2013 at 04:39 PM
We will likely never know all the facts. After all, and though people can speculate, the youth driving is under no obligation to say why he was driving south on Lincoln at that time and apparently by himself. In this country we're free to travel where we wish.
