Moped Driver Struck on E. Ridgewood Ave.

A woman was issued a citation for careless driving in Ridgewood Thursday afternoon after she struck a moped rider at the intersection of E. Ridgewood Ave. and Oak Street, on scene told Patch.

Witnesses said the female driver of a black Mercedes was inching out from Oak Street into the box at E. Ridgewood Ave, headed southbound. The moped driver, a male, was driving eastbound on E. Ridgewood Ave. and hesitated upon seeing the vehicle, the witness said. The Merecedes driver braked then hit the gas, hitting the moped as it was swerving, the witness said.

"He was hit pretty hard but just popped right up, probably from the adrenaline," the witness told Patch. The moped driver was uninjured and appeared in good spirits, despite the accident. He said he'd never been hit before.

Damage to each vehicle appeared minimal.

A single citation for careless driving was issued to the female driver. Identities were not immediately available, as a report had not been completed.
