Motorcycle Accident Briefly Closes Route 208 South

A motorcyclist driving southbound on Route 208 Wednesday was ejected from his bike after hitting the car in front of him.

A motorcyclist driving southbound in the left lane of Route 208 in Fair Lawn on Wednesday morning hit the car in front of him and was ejected into the right lane, Fair Lawn Police Sgt. Richard Schultz said.

Schultz, who was on the scene and called in the accident, said it took place at 10:12 a.m. between the Berdan and Plaza Avenue exits, right near the entrance to Berdan Avenue.

Schultz said traffic had slowed because he was making a traffic stop nearby, but that the motorcyclist didn't recognize soon enough and smashed into the back of the Mercedes Benz sedan directly in front of him. He was ejected from the bike.

Ambulance, paramedics and additional police units were called to the scene for investigation, Schultz said.

The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital with scrapes and cuts to his arms and neck. The extent of his injuries is not known, but Schultz said he was conscious at the scene and had been wearing a helmet.
