Moxie Salon Owners 'Not Happy' About Housewives Brawl

Jenn and Jamie Dunn say the reality TV fight that broke out Saturday night in their salon doesn't reflect how they do business in Ridgewood.

The "Real Housewives" drama that erupted last Saturday night isn't representative of the "Moxie" way, Moxie Salon owners Jamie and Jenn Dunn said Friday.

The twins' second Ridgewood location was the site of a bloody confrontation involving cast members of The Real Housewives of New Jersey. Under the usual spectre of Bravo's cameras, the reality cast was on hand to attend the grand opening of Posche II, the boutique owned by Housewives regular Kim DePaola ("Kim D"). DePaola has several racks in Moxie's second spot.

The brawl, reportedly involving at least three cast members, resulted in an estimated $15,000 of damage to Moxie Salon's sinks and tens of thousands more to DePaola's garments.

The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office is reviewing the . Jacqueline Laurita is accused of striking Johnny Karagiorgis with the point of a stiletto heel "multiple times". He suffered a broken nose in the scuffle.

The trio on Thursday filed counterclaims, alleging Karagiorgis, 38, of Paramus, terrorized, harassed and assaulted them. The countercomplaints have not yet been reviewed by a judge. They say Karagiorgis "threw something and lunged" toward them, initiating the fight. In addition, the Lauritas allege Karagiorgis, who works at Rutts Hutt in Clifton, made negative statements about their autistic son. He vehemently denies the claims.

The "Moxie" twins are hoping the damage is limited to their sinks and not their reputation.

"We’re very sorry to all the Ridgewood people," Jamie Dunn told reporters Friday, adding that Ridgewood "needed" excitement, but not of this nature.

"People from Ridgewood were like, well, this isn’t the typical Ridgewood scene, but we know Moxie Salon will keep the positive and you don’t condone this behavior. But some people from Ridgewood obviously weren’t happy and we understand why."

Her sister, Jenn Dunn, said some may read the headlines and think Moxie Salon is a drama-filled base of operations for celebrity and gossip. It's not simply not true, she says. There is a strict "no gossip" policy all staff must abide by, according to the twins.

The salon – which has had its own reality TV appearances on E! and VH1 specializing in makeovers – is priced to accommodate virtually all income levels, and offer "tons" of pro-bono makeovers for clients, they said.

"We want to tell people that Moxie Salon is for everybody," Jenn said. "It's a comfortable, friendly environment, a great price range for all different types of clientele, not just New Jersey Housewives. Yes, a fight broke out but we're not happy about it."

Jamie and Jenn acknowledged given the reputation of the Housewives, drama should have been expected. But they say they never expected a fight to break out, particularly with security onsite. Though the salon owners don't believe the brawl was staged by Bravo – as Karagiorgis alleges – they remarked it would alter how they view the Housewives should it turn out to be scripted.

Both downplayed confrontation – which reportedly featured a sink being heaved – and said the Housewives and DePaola are not the people they're portrayed to be.

"They were defending themselves from what I saw," Jenn said of the Housewives cast members. "They're really nice people."

The Dunns are looking to put the fight behind them and instead focus on growing their robust business.

The second location, at 74 East Ridgewood Avenue, will offer blowouts and extensions. It is scheduled to open in about a month.

Next door, they plan on opening a "mancave" salon to cater to the needs of men by the end of the year.

"We love Ridgewood, this is our home," said Jenn. "We couldn't be happier to be here."
