Pedestrian Suffers Head Injury in Auto Strike

Victim rushed to Hackensack University Medical Center Tuesday night.

Numerous agencies are investigating a pedestrian strike that occurred on N. Walnut Street in Ridgewood Tuesday night, Ridgewood police said.

According to Lt. William Amoruso, a 71-year-old man was crossing from west to east near TD Bank when a Lexus sedan traveling north struck him.

The victim – whom police said was not in a crosswalk when struck – suffered a head injury and was rushed to Hackensack University Medical Center. The village resident's injuries were considered serious.

The driver, a 48-year-old male from Ridgewood, has not received any summonses as of Tuesday night, police said. His vehicle was impounded by police.

Bergen County Sheriff's Criminal Investigation unit and the county prosecutor's fatal investigation unit are aiding in the continuing investigation.

The incident marks the fourth pedestrian strike recorded in 2013.
