Phone Threat Prompted Evacuation of Glen Rock Elementary School

Authorities found no danger after sweep of the building.

Alexander Hamilton Elementary was evacuated after an anonymous phone threat to the school Tuesday afternoon, according to Glen Rock Police.

The call came in to the school at 1:33 p.m., the department said in a release. "A male caller stated that they should get everyone out of the building immediately and then hung up," police said.

Responding officers cleared the building and set up a perimeter, authorities said.

Students were taken to nearby Academy of Our Lady, according to a notice posted by the school district.

Glen Rock police and the Bergen County Bomb Squad made a sweep of the building for suspicious packages or explosives, and officers maintained a presence at other borough schools, police said.

The threats came less than 24 hours after a gunman forced the lockdown of the Garden State Plaza from Monday night deep into Tuesday morning.

No threat was found in either of the school incidents Tuesday and students remained safe, according to reports.

Police said that they will maintain a "high profile presence during schools hours" Wednesday.
