Police: Another Parking Meter the Target of Thieves

Unlike last time, no money was taken from the parking meter, police say; more information on the exposure case at RHS is available, as well as a few cases of attempted theft.

We reported a few weeks ago about a case of a worker finding parts of a broken parking meter. More recently, on Sept. 8, Patrolman Anthony Mormino discovered an attempt to break open a parking meter on East Ridgewood Avenue. The attempt was unsuccessful, police say, and the detectives are investigating the incident.

  • Exposure incident at RHS

More information has been made available regarding the exposure incident at Ridgewood High School on Rosh Hashanah. Police say a 14-year-old Ridgewood resident was riding her bike home from sports practice when  man exposed his genitals to her while sitting in a parked silver sedan. He's described as a white male with a goatee who was in his mid-20s. Ridgewood detectives are investigating the case.

  • Youth alleged to have attempted to steal candy from store

On Sept. 8, police responded to a call from the manager of Rite Aid, who had said a 16-year-old attempted to steal candy from the pharmacy at around 5 p.m. Police picked up the juvenile they believed was responsible and released him to his parents pending future juvenile court action.

  • Jewelry moved

On Sept. 10, a Spencer Road resident reported numerous pieces of jewelry were stolen from her home during a moving sale. The matter is under investigation by Ridgewood detectives.

  • Woman accused of trying to steal perfume

On Sept. 11, Town and Country Pharmacy reported that a black female in her 30s, with a blue streak in her hair and accompanied by two children, was seen taking bottles of perfume from the store. An employee confronted the woman and grabbed the items she'd allegedly taken, and the woman rushed out of the store to flee, police said. Officers were unable to find the woman, but detectives are investigating the incident.
