Police: Bicyclist Swerved Into Pickup Truck, Taken to Hospital

Cyclist reportedly swerved to avoid dust cloud caused by construction work at a curb

A bicyclist heading down East Ridgewood Avenue near the high school was taken to the hospital after striking a black pickup truck on Tuesday just past noon, police confirmed Tuesday night.

Lt. David McDermott said the man, whose identity was not released, was riding his bicycle east on East Ridgewood Avenue when he swerved into the road to avoid a cloud of dust caused by a construction crew working on the sidewalk on the intersection of Southern Parkway and East Ridgewood Avenue.

The bicyclist struck a black Nissan pickup truck, McDermott said and fell to the ground. The man is believed to have sustained a shoulder injury and was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center, but police could not confirm as of press time.
