Police: Fire at George Washington Middle School

A dumpster caught fire at the school, police are investigating the matter

The Ridgewood Police Department have been busy in the past few days. They're currently investigating a burlary, a fire at George Washington Middle School, and a credit card theft. Additionally, they've made arrests for charges of public urination and posession of marijuana.

Would-Be Burglar Unable to Complete Heist

  • On July 20, 2010 a Van Buren Street resident reported that upon returning from vacation he found that someone had attempted to pry open his front door. The attempt was unsuccessful and is under investigation by the Ridgewood Detective Bureau.

  • On July 20, 2010 at 11:50 p.m. Patrol responded to George Washington Middle School on a dumpster fire. The Ridgewood Fire Department extinguished the fire but was unable to determine the cause. The matter is under investigation by the Ridgewood Detective Bureau.

Teens Charged with Posession of Marijuana

  • On July 23, 2010 at 6:26 p.m. Ptl Anthony Mormino was checking the Lakeview Drive compost area and located four juveniles and one adult smoking marijuana. Ptl Mormino approached the individuals and one juvenile ran from the area. The three remaining juveniles were taken into custody and released to parents pending future action in family court in Hackensack. The adult, an 18-year-old resident of Ridgewood was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and released pending an appearance in Ridgewood Municipal Court. The juvenile that ran has been identified and will face additional charges in family court.

Stolen Credit Cards

  • On July 23, 2010 a Paramus resident reported that while at Valley Hospital someone stole two credit cards from his wallet and used the credit cards. The matter is under investigation by the Ridgewood Detective Bureau.

Posession of Marijuana, Public Urination Charge

  • On July 25, 2010 at 12:00 a.m. Ptl Patrick Elwood was checking the rear of 4 Godwin Avenue and observed two men urinating. The men entered a vehicle and Ptl Elwood approached the vehicle. He observed a package of EZ Wider rolling papers and the passenger attempting to hide something. The Passenger turned over a bag of marijuana when Ptl Elwood inquired about what he had. The driver and passenger, both 25-year-old Ridgewood residents, were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and urinating in public. They were both released pending an appearance in Ridgewood Municipal Court.
