Police: Increase of Burglaries in Area, Be Observant

A Knollwood Road residence was recently ransacked.

A Ridgewood resident on Knollwood Road told police on March 29 that something was awry. The resident told police that they discovered someone had forced open a rear door to the home, ransacked the master bedroom and others, and had taken jewelry. Both the Ridgewood Detective Bureau and the Bergen County Sheriff Crime Scene Unit are investigating the case.

Other notable police incidents from the past week:

  • Over on Hillcrest Road, the village's engineering department reported on March 29 that there has been damage done to the Hillcrest Road dam project. Ridgewood police are looking into what the cause of the damage is.
  • Ptl Joseph Youngberg conducted a motor vehicle stop on East Ridgewood Avenue near Cottage Place on April 1 around 10:00 p.m., a stop where police claim a 44-year-old Ridgewood woman was driving under the influence of alcohol. The individual, according to police, was arrested for refusing to submit breath samples, as well as numerous other vehicle violations and DWI. The village resident was released pending an appearance in Ridgewood Municipal Court.

The Ridgewood Police Department said it would like to remind Ridgewood residents to report any suspicious activity in neighborhoods, as towns in Bergen County have seen an increase in burglaries lately. Resident observance is often the most valuable tool in making burglary arrests, police report.
