Resident Charged With Serving Minors Alcohol

26 minors found at May 15 Lakeview Drive party.

Police broke up an underaged drinking party in Ridgewood over the weekend and charged the homeowner.

Debra Ghaderi, 53, was found present and was charged with serving underage persons alcohol at her home on Lakeview Drive.

Patrol responded to the house at 9:56 p.m. May 15 on reports of underaged drinking. Upon arrival, officers observed numerous juveniles in the driveway and juveniles trying to climb out of windows to flee.

The 26 minors were released to the parental custody pending juvenile court action for violation of Village Ordinance 3065—possession or consumption of alcohol under age.

  • Patrol responded to Rite Aid Pharmacy May 11 at 8:23 a.m. on a report of a shoplifter that had fled. The shoplifter was located and identified by the store manager in Van Neste Park. Kenneth Surgent, 25, of Waldwick was arrested and charged with shoplifting. He was released pending an appearance in Ridgewood Municipal Court.
  • Resident John Johnson, 23, was arrested May 11 for stealing from a store's tip jar. Bagelicious reported that a black male in his mid-20s had stolen a tip jar from the counter at 12:56 p.m. A follow-up investigation by Det. Peter Youngberg resulted in Johnson's arrest. He was charged with theft and released pending an appearance in Ridgewood Municipal Court.
  • Kenneth Surgent was arrested and charged with shoplifting and open container of alcohol in public on May 11 at 4 p.m. Ptl. Patrick Elwood was off-duty on East Ridgewood Avenue and was approached by a person who reported that a shoplifting had occurred at Cordially Your Liquors. Elwood contacted the desk for assistance, and Surgent was arrested in the area of the bus terminal. He was released pending an appearance in Ridgewood Municipal Court.
  • The Ridgewood Police Department would like to remind residents that the department will continue its increased enforcement of Driving While Intoxicated Laws. Officers will be looking for the signs of under the influence drivers and taking the appropriate action.
