Ridgewood Police will be using traffic plates and video recordings to conduct a traffic impact study of Garber Square over the next few weeks.

According to a recent post on the PD’s Facebook page, the study is part of the village’s Engineering, Education and Enforcement traffic safety initiative.

Ridgewood Police will be working with security video company Watch 24 Security to conduct the study, the post said.

The PD plans to use “High Star traffic plates on targeted streets to track traffic flow and speeds,” cops said in the post.

“In addition Secure Watch 24 Security is providing 2 of their Mobile Suite Video Management System (VMS) which include portable high-definition IP-based cameras and self-contained DVR/NVR units which will be deployed to provide continuous coverage of traffic flow on Garber square and on Franklin Ave[nue].”

Cops said they have been working with Watch 24 over the past two years on similar safety initiatives.

After all these years we need a traffic study to tell us this area is a mess and will only get worse once this one lane road and bike lane to nowhere is completed.

Maybe the town council and pd conduct a similar study at the corners of Franklin Ave and Cottage Place, N. Walnut, and Chestnut... You know, where pedestrians on a daily basis take their lives in their hands crossing the street at marked crosswalks. The problem we have in town is NOT that cars can't get to where they're going fast enough, its that self absorbed drivers (like the ones complaining about the bike lane) don't take their privilege of driving a car seriously enough. Get off the cell phones, slow down and pay attention to pedestrians! And please stop whining about the trip from Daisy nail salon to Whole Foods going from 2 minutes to 4!

It's true...it's seriously scary walking anywhere downtown with our little ones. People just DON'T pay attention and are ALWAYS on their cell phones, more concerned with where THEY have to go, when THEY need to be there.

Traffic study in the summer is a complete waste of time.
