Ridgewood Female Police Join Other Departments to Fight Breast Cancer

Captain Jacqueline Luthcke, Officer Shane Broglia walk for cancer, help raise nearly $8,500 in a 5K walk as part of Women in Blue Fighting in Pink team

Ridgewood's Finest Ladies spent Sunday, Oct. 18 at the new Overpeck Park participating in a 5K walk for breast cancer research.

"Women in Blue Fighting in Pink" team raised close to $8,500 at the walk, according to its website. The team comprised of female police officers from all over the area, but two of the participants are also breast cancer survivors.

"Unfortunately breast cancer is so common and it is continuing to take women's lives every year," said Ridgewood Police Captain Jacqueline Luthcke, who walked along with Ridgewood Patrolman Shane Broglia. "Unfortunately, it's even something men need to be aware of. Obviously the more research they can do, we all hope and pray some day we can find a cure for it."

The money raised went to The American Cancer Society earmarked for breast cancer work, to help fund mammograms, free lodging for breast cancer patients when treatment is far from home and helping with free rides to and from treatment for cancer patients needing a lift.

"We had a beautiful day, the rain held off," said Luthcke. "We had a lot of fun just chatting with people from other departments, people from other areas during the walk at the new Overpeck Park, which is gorgeous."
