Ridgewood's Finest and Bravest to Duke it Out in Charity Softball Game

Proceeds from the event will benefit the daughter of a village employee who is battling a rare illness.

The Ridgewood Police Department will seek to hold onto its championship title against village firefighters in a charity softball game Sunday.

The annual game between the two departments, an old tradition restarted last year, will benefit the four-year-old daughter of a village employee who has required out-of-state trips for surgeries to treat a rare medical condition involving her digestive system.

In last year's match, the police edged out a 10-7 victory against the fire department squad.

The friendly competition is free to spectators, with concessions for sale to support the charity as well as music and emergency vehicles for kids to check out.

The first pitch will be tossed at Vet's Field at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 6.
