Teachers were alerted by students at Friday afternoon that a student brought in what appeared to be an ammunition shell and an end piece to a nail gun, according to Ridgewood Schools Superintendent Daniel Fishbein.

In a telephone conversation Friday afternoon, Fishbein said the student found the piece of the device (essentially a primer to propel a nail through say, a 2X4) at his home – which is undergoing construction – and a spent "shell" that attaches to the end of the nail gun.

The student displayed the items to fellow students who alerted the teacher, Fishbein said.  arrived shortly thereafter and determined it was harmless. Nothing was fired – or could be – and Fishbein said students and staff were at no point in danger. The school did not activate a lockdown, he said.
