Suspect in January Car Theft Arrested

Patterson man allegedly went joyriding with vacationing resident's car.

A Paterson resident was arrested Nov. 16 for charges related to a January car theft.

In January, it was reported that resident returned  from a vacation and his or her 2003 Ford Mustang was missing from the garage. The vehicle was later found to have been involved in a motor vehicle crash in Paterson and abandoned. The resident's 2006 Jaguar had also been allegedly driven and returned to the garage. The Jaguar was processed by the Bergen County Sheriffs Department BCI.

Police used a DNA sample taken from the vehicle and later matched it to Mayo. Detective Douglas Henky arrested the Paterson man. He was charged with burglary, receiving stolen property, and joyriding. He was detained in the Passaic County Jail on $75,000 bail.

Police continue to seek out his alleged accomplice.

  • A Hampton, N.Y. resident reported Nov. 11 that during a stay at Valley Hospital an unknown person entered her room and allegedly stole a diamond engagement ring valued at $4,000. The matter is under investigation by the Ridgewood Detective Bureau.
  • The owner of the Wilsey Mart reported Nov. 11 that he allegedly observed a juvenile place items in his back pack and attempt to leave the store. The juvenile was taken into custody and released to the custody of his parents.
  • An Ethelbert Place resident reported Nov. 12 that she found jewelry missing Nov. 6. The victim reported that she contracted a company to work in her home Nov. 5 and 6. After workers left, she found the items missing. The matter is under investigation by the Ridgewood Detective Bureau.
  • Town and Country Apothecary reported Nov. 13 that it had observed an adult female place three items in her purse totaling $175. Allegedly, the woman quickly exited the store and was last seen on Prospect Street. The store was able to capture the female on video.  The matter is under investigation by the Ridgewood Detective Bureau.
  • Rite Aid Pharmacy reported Nov. 14 that a tall black male had entered the store and was observed placing several items in a bag. He exited the store and left the area in an older blue pick up truck with wood grain siding. The matter is under investigation by the Ridgewood Detective Bureau.
