SUV Jumps Curb, Strikes Teen in Ridgewood Driveway

Police are continuing to investigate a strange Saturday afternoon accident that sent a 17-year-old girl to the hospital.

A 17-year-old Ridgewood girl was rushed to the hospital with a head injury after she was struck by an SUV in a driveway Saturday afternoon.

According to Ridgewood police, the 17-year-old was standing next to a parked car in a North Pleasant Avenue driveway when an SUV jumped the curb and struck her and the nearby parked car.

The victim sustained head and foot injuries, Ptl. Shayne James said Saturday night. The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police are investigating what caused the driver, an 18-year-old male from Ridgewood, to breach the road and careen into the victim and parked car. It appeared he was attempting to turn at the time of the crash, James said.

The driver has not been issued any summonses as of 7 p.m. Saturday. The investigation remains ongoing.
