Teaneck Police Officer Injured in Sandy Response

Tree limb slams into police car.

A Teaneck police officer at the scene of a transformer fire was injured Monday when a tree limb fell onto his patrol car, sending shards of glass flying into his face, officials said.

Police were called to the fire, at River Road and Kent Avenue, at the height of the violent storm. As the officer was checking the scene, a branch came crashing onto the cruiser's windshield.

Police Chief Robert Wilson said Tuesday night the officer has been released from the hospital.

The officer suffered an injury to his cornea, along with neck and back injuries, according to Township Manager William Broughton.

Teaneck emergency responders were flooded with calls through the storm, including downed live wires and transformer explosions.
