Underaged Resident Arrested for Open Container Violation

Underaged alcohol possession and open container violation charged to village 20-year-old.

Ridgewood police arrested a village 20-year-old after finding him walking downtown with an open container of alcohol.

Robert Astarita was arrested and charged with possession of alcohol under age and open container of alcohol in public.

Police said that Ptl. Darin Thomas observed Astarita April 8 at 1:01 a.m. walking in the area of East Ridgewood Avenue and Prospect Street carrying a beer bottle. Thomas stopped Astarita and confirmed the public open container alcohol possession.

When Astarita was identified, police learned he was 20-years-old. Astarita was arrested, charged and released pending an appearance in Ridgewood Municipal Court.

  • A fire was reported at the Valleau Cemetery April 8 at 2:01 p.m. A cemetery employee observed six juvenile males flee the area of the fire and was able to identify the juveniles for Det. Peter Youngberg. The matter is currently still under investigation by the Ridgewood Detective Bureau.
  • A West End Avenue resident reported April 11 that she had left her purse in her unlocked vehicle overnight. When she returned to the vehicle, the purse had been taken. The matter is under investigation by the Ridgewood Detective Bureau.
  • A Valley Hospital employee reported April 12 that she left her coat in the staff lounge April 4. When she returned for the jacket, it was gone. The matter is under investigation by the Ridgewood Detective Bureau.
  • A Godwin Avenue resident reported April 12 that throughout 2010 numerous pieces of jewelry have been taken from her home. The matter is under investigation by the Ridgewood Detective Bureau.
  • Ptl. Shane Broglia and Rosario Vaccarella arrested Gregory T. Boron of Ridgewood on a warrant from the Wyckoff Court April 13 at 12:13 a.m. Boron was turned over to the Wyckoff Police Department.
