VIDEO: Pedestrians Cross at Their Own Risk

As , they faced a different kind of threat – vehicles disregarding the rules of the road.

In this brief video shot late Friday afternoon, a man attempts to cross East Ridgewood Avenue and Van Neste Square. He eventually was able to cross the road, albeit several cars later. Seconds after his successful crossing, two vehicles narrowly avoided a collision a few feet east.

An hour later, it was much the same story. A woman attempting to cross northbound with a child stopped midway through the E. Ridgewood Ave. intersection to avoid an oncoming car. A horn blared moments later – another near collision between two cars.

Police said in a – broadcast on an LED sign stationed near Maple Ave. and E. Ridgewood Ave. – they would be stepping up pedestrian enforcement efforts given the higher level of foot traffic over the Thanksgiving break.
