Whole Foods Cars Burglarized

Police detail two break-ins Oct. 20.

Village police responded to multiple car break-ins last week. 

A Tenafly resident reported that while her vehicle was parked at Whole Foods on Godwin Avenue an unknown person smashed her window and took multiple items from her car Oct. 20.

A second incident was also reported again at Whole Foods that day. A Bergenfield resident reported that his car window was smashed and items were allegedly stolen. The matters are under investigation by the Ridgewood Detective Bureau.

Police reported previously that a vehicle on South Van Dien Avenue was broken into Oct. 17. A Spring Avenue resident reported her car broken into by a softball-sized rock.

—A Stanford, Conn. resident reported Oct. 23 that he had contracted a village business for a mortgage modification. The victim had paid $2,195 for the service in March 2009. However, no work was done on the mortgage, and the victim came to Ridgewood to investigate. At the provided address, he found the business vacant. The matter is under investigation by the Ridgewood Detective Bureau.

—Det. Peter Youngberg responded to 495 Darby Court in an attempt to serve an arrest warrant Oct. 22. The man was not present at the home but later that evening Youngberg observed a man pull up to the home. He had an outstanding warrant from Palisades Park. Youngberg approached the accused and attempted to place him under arrest. The accused became belligerent and attempted to break free from him.

During the incident, the accused assaulted Youngberg. The man, 46, was arrested and charged with resisting arrest and aggravated assault on a police officer as well as the outstanding warrant from Palisades Park. He was released after posting $10,000 bail for the Ridgewood charges and $500 for the charges from Palisades Park.

—Ptl. Robert Hirsch was approached by a representative of a village realtor Oct. 23. She had found a person sleeping on the floor of an apartment at 8 Van Neste Square. The man did not belong in the apartment, and the realtor wanted him removed. During the investigation, it was determined that the man had an outstanding warrant from the Ridgewood Municipal Court for failure to comply with a court payment plan. He was arrested and remanded to the Bergen County Jail unable to post bail.
