Update: Worker Who Fell From Tree Did Not Sustain Life-Threatening Injuries

Incident occurred at Clinton Avenue house at around 1:45 p.m. Friday

[Editor's note: Update at 5:42 p.m. to include information from the tree company's owner, Michael Almstead.]

A landscaping worker removing a tree leaning over a Clinton Avenue house fell to the ground and was transported to Valley Hospital at around 1:45 p.m. Friday.

"It's pretty scary," the homeowner told Patch from the scene. "Thank God he had a helmet on."

The man was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) by ambulance. Police, fire and EMS responded to the scene.

Reached for comment Friday afternoon, Michael Almstead, owner of Almstead Tree Service, said the "long-time worker" did not sustain life-threatening injuries. He remained at HUMC as of 5:30 p.m.

Almstead Tree Service, which the owner said practices safety exercises regularly, is conducting an internal investigation to determine how the accident happened. It's not yet known how far he fell nor the extent of his injuries.

Taking the worker to the hospital was "more a precautionary" measure, according to the owner. The worker told colleagues he wanted to keep working to finish the job, Almstead said.

His family has been made aware of the fall and the tree company is hoping for a speedy recovery, Almstead said.

[Editor's note: The hospital the worker was taken to was misidentified; he was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center and the correction has been made.]
