Bergen County Commemorates Black History Month

Officials have dedicated Bergen County’s celebration of Black History Month to The 50th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Movement.

The County Executive, board of chosen freeholders, and local residents marked the month-long county celebration with a ceremony Thursday evening, the county announced in a release.

“Because the theme of this year’s Black History Month is The 50th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Movement, we remember Dr. Martin Luther King, who spoke of Justice, Equality, and Fairness,” County Executive Kathleen Donovan said in her proclamation Thursday night. 

“We must remind ourselves that we have not all reached the mountain top, so we must continue to climb.”

A display that uses both photos and books to tell the story of the Civil Rights Movement is open to the public throughout the month of February in the Bergen County Administration Building, Fifth Floor Vestibule. It is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
