Booker Sets Up Campaign Office in Ridgewood

Senatorial candidate has opened an office at 15 Godwin Avenue, across from Whole Foods.

Heavily favored to claim the U.S. Senate seat formerly held by the late Frank Lautenberg, Newark Mayor Cory Booker opened a campaign office in Ridgewood last Friday.

The campaign office, located at 15 Godwin Avenue, is the Booker camp's second office in Bergen County, the other being the Bergen County Democratic Committee headquarters in Hackensack.

"We’re building a grassroots campaign, and part of that is connecting with and harnessing the enthusiasm of volunteers across New Jersey," Booker spokeswoman Silvia Alvarez said. "The mayor currently has 12 campaign offices open, which we think will help him do just that."

Don't expect to see Booker walking around the village much. The space is only being leased for the duration of the campaign.

Alvarez sidestepped when asked if Booker has scheduled any campaign stops in Ridgewood.

"The Mayor has been visiting as many areas of the state, and talking to as many voters as he possibly can and will continue make as many stops as his schedule will allow," she said.

Should Booker win the Democratic primary on Aug. 13 over Rep. Rush Holt, Rep. Frank Pallone and Speaker Sheila Oliver, he'll likely face off with conservative Republican Steve Lonegan in the October special election.

Recent polls suggest Booker, whose war chest and name recognition dwarfs that of competitors, is heavily favored to win Lautenberg's seat.
