Frozen Yogurt Shops Moving Into Ridgewood

Ordinance blocking 'fast food' dining has expired and two businesses are looking to quickly get in to Ridgewood

The end of the fast food ordinance has quickly brought much in the way of frozen yogurt to Ridgewood.

With 20 days having elapsed since the , two shops have already begun the permit process.

As we've reported, the Bloom family has plans to bring some of Montclair's well-regarded chain Red Mango to East Ridgewood Ave, at what was once the site of Quiznos at 43 E. Ridgewood Ave. After being denied by the zoning board but subsequently witnessing restrictions drop with the council vote, Bloom told Patch in December he was eyeing a late winter, early spring opening date.

At 17 N. Broad St. – formerly the spot of and later the – is poised to challenge Red Mango as the top yogurt shop in Ridgewood.

According to landlord Eugene Ferraro, Koa Koa's owners have attempted to check into Ridgewood previously but were among the many stifled by the ordinance.

When open, Koa Koa will be a largely self-serve operation, providing numerous topping options for customers. Prices are determined by weight. In the Hoboken and Fort Lee stores, prices start at $.55 per ounce and menus are displayed on large flat-screen televisions.

Koa Koa owner Sarah Lim could not immediately be reached for comment.
