Glen Rock Council Agrees to Study of Shared Garage with Ridgewood

Towns will split the cost to study the feasibility of constructing a garage in Glen Rock for use by both municipalities.

The councils of Ridgewood and Glen Rock have both formally agreed to study the possibility of constructing a shared garage for the maintenance of the two towns’ municipal vehicles.

Glen Rock’s borough council approved a resolution on Wednesday night to fund half of a feasibility study with Ridgewood, where the village council approved a similar resolution Oct. 9. The cost for each municipality, split evenly, is $5,250.

That cost will cover a two-part assessment of the viability of constructing a garage on a 90,000 square foot lot on Ridgewood-owned property in Glen Rock.

An engineering firm will explore environmental permitting, and conduct a study of whether the driveway entering the Prospect Street site, which also houses a water treatment plant, will accommodate the needs of the two towns.

Officials have not yet estimated the costs of the project, saying the exact details of the project are unknown pending findings of the study and further discussion between the two municipalities.

The new site would replace the current garages, Ridgewood’s on Chestnut Street and Glen Rock’s on Doremus Avenue, which officials in both towns have said do not currently meet the needs of their fleets.
