Glen Rock, Ridgewood Enter Talks on Municipal Garage Proposal

Village of Ridgewood has been considering constructing a new municipal garage in the town of Glen Rock. Officials in both towns are discussing costs and benefits of such a proposal.

Ridgewood and Glen Rock officials are entering into early talks on a prospective plan that would see Ridgewood construct a large municipal garage in Glen Rock, according to a recent report.

Recognizing the current facility on Chestnut Street is inadequate, village officials are looking to possibly sell the Chestnut spot to a private developer and use the sale money to build a modern facility on village-owned land on Prospect Avenue in Glen Rock.

Two "L-shaped" lots totaling 90,000 square feet at the site of the Water Pollution Control facility could accommodate the garage, village officials have said.

According to The Ridgewood News, Ridgewood Deputy Mayor Albert Pucciarelli said he hopes multiple towns can make use of a new facility if constructed, including Glen Rock if they're interested. Should more towns come aboard, the garage specs might have to be modified, the article noted.

Glen Rock Mayor John van Keuren said borough officials are working with Ridgewood to get a clearer sense of the project and its costs and benefits. He had previously taken umbrage that Glen Rock officials had been kept in the dark over the project.
