Moratorium on PSE&G Pole Project Extended Through Monday

Village still considering legal options to oppose installation of 78 utility poles in town.

The moratorium on PSE&G's controversial substation project that's raised the ire of residents and officials in Ridgewood will continue through Monday, Mayor Paul Aronsohn said Friday.

PSE&G is constructing 78 utility poles measuring 65 feet in height on Hope Street, Spring and East Ridgewood avenues, running 69KV lines of electricity. The project is an effort to increase electrical capacity and strengthen substations in Paramus and Fair Lawn, according to the utility.

Following several appearances at Village Hall for information sessions and discussions, the utility had said it planned to resume the project on Friday but again pushed work back.

The village is still mulling its legal options, Aronsohn said. The town may request a public hearing from the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities.
