Ridgewood Favored Obama in 2012

According to unofficial election data, the president edged challenger Mitt Romney. Overall, villagers didn't favor vote down the ticket for any one party.

As was the case in the last two previous presidential elections, more voters in Ridgewood cast a ballot for a Democrat than a Republican.

According to unofficial election data, 5,468 votes were cast for President Barack Obama out of 10,839 overall. Republican Mitt Romney was close behind, however, with 5,263 votes. It's a razor-thin margin at 50.4 percent to 48.5 percent.

The votes do not include absentee ballots, which could be high given the unique weather conditions many faced on Tuesday.

In 2008, Obama took home more votes from the village than Sen. John McCain, his Republican challenger. The margin of victory was much larger four years ago – Obama defeated McCain 54.9 percent to 44.2 percent.

John Kerry also found more Ridgewood residents checking the box next to his name during his unsuccessful run at the White House in 2004.

In 2012, the village jumped between both national parties. U.S. Senator Bob Menendez scored roughly 400 more votes than opponent Joe Kyrillos. In the other legislative body, incumbent Tea Party darling Scott Garrett plucked about 800 more votes than Teaneck Deputy Mayor Adam Gussen.

Though they were soundly defeated county-wide, Ridgewood voters punched the ticket for Republican freeholder candidates Rob Hermansen and Peg Watkins by narrow margins.
