Ridgewood Leaf Collection Begins Monday

Check out the map to see when the Streets Department is coming by your area.

The village council still must officially pass its new-but-old leaf collection ordinance at its next public meeting on Oct. 24, but leaf collection will start humming along on Monday with the season's first collection.

Those in Area A will be the first to see the front loaders and vacuums in their neighborhoods. Area A is the northeast section of Ridgewood, north of Maple Avenue, west of Colonial, Fairway and Wall Street to the Ho-Ho-Kus Border.

The following day, Oct. 24, is Area B's turn. The area contains the village downtown and the northwest section of town (mostly the Willard school area).

Collection in Area C (the southeast part of Ridgewood, including Somerville and The Lawns) starts up on Monday, Oct. 29, and Area D (southwest section of Ridgewood, including Orchard School) on Halloween, Wednesday Oct. 31.

The village will be enforcing the DEP's 7-day rule, meaning piles can be placed in the streets for residents living in areas A and B, but not in C until Monday or Area D until Wednesday.

Mum plants and pumpkins can be included with leaves, but items with attached wires are prohibited.

Brush and branches are expressly prohibited from being in leaf piles. Those items should be processed at the Recycling Center on E. Glen Avenue.
