Ridgewood Primary Voters Back Booker, Lonegan

The candidates will face off in a special contest this October.

Primary voters in Ridgewood overwhelmingly selected Newark mayor Cory Booker and former Bogota mayor Steve Lonegan to battle it out for a senate seat in a special election this October.

Registered Democrats in Ridgewood offered up 760 votes for Booker, while Republican Steve Lonegan received 407 votes from primary voters on the other card. Booker beat Rep. Rush Holt (190 votes), Rep. Frank Pallone (129 votes) and Speaker Sheila Oliver (21 votes). Lonegan bested physician Alieta Eck, who took home only 84 votes.

Turnout was a paltry 9.52 percent in the village. The senate seat was vacated following the death of the late Frank Lautenberg.
