Ridgewood Govt. Spends How Much on Fuel?

Any guess how much is spent on street lights each year? Garbage disposal? Sewage? We have the answers.

Village workers aren't exactly rolling around in Chevy Volts, and the proves it. The high cost of gasoline and diesel fuel accounts for about $423,965 of the $45 million budget. Officials can only hope the projected drop in price to below $3 a gallon can hold steady, though they won't be betting on it.

Here are a few other interesting budget tidbits. Did you know the village spends about $690,000 in garbage disposal dump fees? Or that the sanitary sewer system expenditures notch almost $1.4 million? Although PSE&G , it'll cost taxpayers in Ridgewood a cool $280,000.

Your neighbors not paying their taxes also hits hard – the reserve for uncollected taxes is more than $1.6 million, or about $143 per the average resident (actually) paying $3,973 in municipal services.
